The Science of Insulation
Our energy bills are directly affected by the laws of science.
Mother Nature has created 3 basic laws of science that dramatically affect our energy bills, our comfort and even our health:
- Heat seeks cold, for example an ice cube melting.
- Wet seeks dry - a dry towel absorbs moisture.
- High pressure seeks low pressure- it causes a summer breeze.
In its quest for balance, hot humid air seeks to equalize itself with the cool dry interiors of our homes and offices. When there are air leaks in the outside envelope of our buildings, an open road is formed to make this process easier.
Add even a light breeze, and it becomes a six lane highway. And as the air gains entrance, it brings with it a whole host of unsavory friends who have hitched a ride. Fungi. Allergens. Pollution. Pollen. Germs. Mold spores.
All gain easy access to our indoor environment.
There are only two ways to retard this process. Ignore the leaks and let the A/C system struggle to dehumidify and cool the inside air, or seal the air leaks to stop it from happening in the first place. Which do you think is easier on your budget?
