Home Foam Insulation - Residential FAQ

Is core-fill 500 masonry foam insulation hazardous?
No. Tailored Foam is totally safe! It is non-toxic, odorless, and environmentally friendly.

I heard foam insulation shrinks or deteriorates over time
Not true. While in the past some attempts to insulate block walls had these results, Tailored Foam shrinks less than 1%

Does expanding foam insulation absorb water?
Very little. The outside skin will become moist, but the inner core remains dry. This means less moisture and humidity can enter the house through the walls with foam insulation.

My son has allergies- we can't use anything like that!
Tailored Foam is non-allergenic, and in fact, might help your son's condition because it improves indoor air quality.

Does your foam insulation give off harmful gasses?
Our foam was tested for gasses and odors during the time of installation, and again after one year in place. The results were the same - there are no odors, and no harmful gasses with core-fill 500 masonry foam insulation.

When is the best time to install your foam?
Since Tailored Foam completely seals all penetrations, it is best if we install foam after the majority of them have been made. Most installations occur after the electricians have completed their "rough-in". The exact timing for your installations can be worked out between your builder and our Tailored Foam personnel.

Does it seal the walls too tightly?
No. Indoor air experts agree that the walls of the house should not be allowed to "breathe" in order to supply sufficient fresh air. The proper air supply should be a controllable source, whether it comes through the air conditioning system or even from the old-fashioned way-opening the windows.

How does your foam insulation help prevent mold & mildew?
Tailored Foam qualifies as an Air Infiltration Retarder, not a vapor barrier. This means that instead of trapping moist air inside the wall cavity, it dramatically reduces the amount that passes through the wall. And as this small amount reaches the cooler interior, it does not condense because the temperature has been reduced by the insulation properties of the foam. The air conditioning system then removes the remaining moisture in the normal process of air conditioning.
